Your qualifications sound very similar to my uncle's, who had a lot of trouble getting into medical school. After undergrad he continued his work as an EMT and finally was accepted to an Allopathic Program, where he studied one year. He reapplied and was accepted to the MD program at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He went into orthopedic surgery and eventually set up his own practice. It was a long road for him, but he is now one of the weathiest, best respected, and most successful people I know.

Hey,

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the American medical school process. Best of luck with everything!

My situation:
I am a senior at a sub-par, recently accredited state school.
I will be graduating with a B.A, in biology this spring.
I am taking organic Chem I and II this summer.
I have over 200 hours of Healthcare experience as an EMT, including a servcise learning trip with a professor of mine this past winter.
I have a 3.88 Science GPA including 4.0's in: anatomy I and II, gen chem I and II, Biochem, Physics I and II, Stats, Gen Bio, Cell Biology, Global Health, and Genetics.
I have a 3.43 cumulative GPA to date.

GPA by semester is as follows:
1) 2.7
2) 3.2
3) 3.29
4) 3.85
5) 4.0
6) 4.0

With the details that I inlcuded, what are my realistic chances of getting accepted into an Allopathic program? What about a DO preogram?

Thanks in advance!

Bethany: My university offered organic chemistry as a single year long course, so I'm not sure what is covered in orgo 1 vs orgo 2.

Did you feel like Organic Chem 2 was really important to the test or could one get by with just Organic 1?

@Sharon: Sorry, but we don't have any experience applying to American medical schools. If you check the websites of those medical schools you are interested in, I'm sure they will explain everything. Good luck!

I still have one question. When are the admission dates of universities like Stanford, Yale and Pennsylvania? I have no idea how to apply these. Thanks a lot :)

@Sharon: No, you can take the MCAT after you go to university, but before you apply to medical school. Medical schools are university programs (and thus, medical schools are part of universities). But not every university has a medical school.
