I stumbled upon this article of yours, and I really like your attitude toward journalism.
I also strongly believe that only the whole truth should be presented to the community and twisting and bending facts to create an article with just enough spice to make the cut-off for publishing is degrading.
Thank you for this useful post.

Hey John,

I've honestly only heard good things about McMaster Health Sciences for the most part, and I have a lot of friends who go there and are happy there.

I chose to go to York because I had a good research opportunity, and staying in Toronto allowed me to remain involved in some things that were important to me.

Hey, I was just wondering why you chose not to go into McMaster Health Sciences even though you got accepted. Is there anything about the program you didn't like? I heard a few rumours about bad parts of the program but I'm not sure if they're true.

Hey Bill,

Nope, most medical schools don't care what undergraduate program you attend. In terms of your university studies, the important things are to make sure you complete any medical school prerequisites and that you work hard to obtain a competitive GPA.

And yah, that would be an example of undergraduate studies.

Good luck!

Hey Joshua, I have recently become a frequent visitor to your online blog and it seems to me that you have some very interesting things to talk about. Also, you have provided me with some valuable information, so I thank you for that. I am currently a high school student thinking about pursuing a career in medicine, but I'm a little confused about the whole process of becoming a doctor. After high school, is there a specific program you have to go into to become a doctor...say Life Sciences? For example, I know you went to York University, but what program, and does it really matter what program you go into? Lastly, is Undergrad studies the same as pursing a bachelor's degree in Life Sciences at U of t for example?

Hi Neha,

I search for pictures with a Creative Commons License, which means that I have permission from the creators of the pictures/photos to use them on this blog without having to ask: http://search.creativecommons.org/

As for why I chose to go to York, I actually went step by step through my thought process on that in this article:

Hi,

I was wondering if Mac Health Sci was right for me. Their philosophy seems quite interesting.

Since, I am a "med-hopeful" (yes, I know, quite competitive),I'd like getting as much help as possible to chose my undergrad.

So, here's a question for you: Why did YOU chose Biomedical Science @ York?

You don't have to answer, but it would be good if you do.

BTW, love this blog. Where do you get those awesome pictures?

I had a comment on their admission process in the MacInsider forum. There were a number of replies and a lot of speculation but the final word came from a third year Health Sci student.

Apparently unlike their Med School the admission to Health Sci is purely subjective.

Mac Med school has a Pre-interview Formula (63% Undergrad GPA, 33% Autobiographical Submission Score)and a Post interview Formula (33% Undergrad GPA, 67% Multiple Mini-Interview.

As you can see this is a objective + subjective admission process.

In case of Health Sci it is purely subjective - once you are over 90% (last years average) three people (two students and a faculty member) read your Supp Apps and grade you out of 7 - the average decides who gets in. This is a 100 % subjective selection process.

For those of you reading this who are interested in reading the whole thread - here it is :

Hey George,

Thanks for commenting! It's really helpful to have someone who is actually in the Health Sciences program provide some input on the issue.

I agree, it seems like a lot of students apply and decide to go to Health Sciences without even thinking about the program itself, and whether it makes sense for them to go into it!
