Shelly Luu graduated with a B.Sc. from the University of Ottawa in 2009, and is currently in her third year of medical school at the University of Toronto.
A self described “research junkie”, Shelly loves to do research and has received a number of research scholarships in the past 4 years, funding her projects in the fields of surgery, virology, and medical education.
She started university when she was 16 and med school at 19. She has received numerous awards for her academic achievements, including the University of Ottawa Gold Medal in Science and the Governor General’s Bronze Academic Medal.
Outside of school, Shelly has held executive positions in Best Buddies and Canadian Council of the Blind chapters, as well as in university student government. She really enjoys community work, so you’ll always find her with a couple of projects on the go.
Shelly was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Toronto. She speaks three languages and her interests lie in ophthalmology, healthcare accessibility, and surgical education. Her pastimes include archery, badminton, blogging, and travelling.
