Hey Paloma,

I'm glad you found the encouragement helpful :) You just got to remember that these are only two tests in a life time of tests... and even if you are still upset, that's normal, we all feel like that for a while.

Good luck studying!

Hey Francine,

I guess it sounds like I've overcome those problems, but honestly, it's still something I'm working on. I still get upset over a lower than expected mark, but I have yet to meet any student become completely immune to those feelings. For me, I might go through a day or so of being upset, and then I just try to forget it.

You just have to realize that taking tests is like anything else in your life. For whatever reason, it just doesn't go your way sometimes, and the results are not necessarily reflective of your true abilities.

I'm not saying that it's never your fault. It's quite possible you didn't study enough or got too overconfident. It's important that you are realistic when re-evaluating why you didn't do as well as you could have.

I'm sometimes irrational about stuff like this myself. There have definitely been tests where I've done bad on, and have gotten upset, but I knew deep down I just didn't prepare well enough. I think more so than the bad mark, it hurt that I knew I could have done better, but my laziness kept me back.

Hello Joshua,

As I read the description of a results oriented individual, I couldn't help but notice how much it resembles my own personality. I am so accustomed to receiving good marks, that my world shatters whenever that pattern is broken. One of my objectives this year is to manage my perfectionist tendencies to a reasonable level. How did you overcome those occasional mishaps that you encountered in your academic career?

Anyways, thank you for writing another helpful and encouraging article. :)

Hey Joshua,

I haven't commented in a while, but after reading this article, I just had to leave a note saying how well-written it is (well all your articles are well-written, but still). I think it's especially important for people like myself who are in the middle of exams, university and scholarship applications, etc. that while results are important, it's the long-term process which is more important. I just found out that I did horribly on a calculus test, but I'm determined to change that on the exam. :)

Thanks for the encouragement and keep writing!
