If you spend enough time looking, you're definitely going to meet friends who also like community service as much as you do!

yeah i agree with this article, most of my friends are in scienceee.. but i also have a few friend who are in the arts.
but one thing i didn't really share with my friends was community service, many of them were only interested in science project to join me in volunteering and such.

That humour comment is really interesting. I definitely think I laugh more with people I am closer to!

I think humor also really ties into everything you've been talking about in this blog. I can't think of any of my really close friends or even good friends with whom I don't laugh with. It makes me cringe thinking of a friendship where you don't share common humor with the other person. And I'm not talking about polite laughter, though it is definitely better than silence, because there isn't true enjoyment in that (and how long can you keep that up?). Certainly, it still comes to common interests though, pyschologists conducted studies that found people are more likely to laugh about things related to themselves (i.e. old people like jokes that pertains to hearing loss, memory loss etc). It seems that another trend is that jokes that makes the person (hearing it) feel superior also rates quite high on the funny scale. Examples are everywhere especially in election time what with making fun of politicians. It makes me think that maybe a factor in friends is that we choose friends who are similar to us because it is easier to be happy for them and praise/like them because of the similarities to themselves? A sad outlook on humanity I guess, but it's not a big factor I'm sure. Anyways nice article! I really like your systematic logical way of solving problems or making sense of situations until a simple solution surfaces. It may sound weird but it's a "joy" to read things like that; as a highschool student too much talk about makeup and hairstyle really gets to you after a while :P
