High School grades matter for the high school level. It will matter for university acceptances, scholarships, other awards associated with secondary school.

As for professional schools, high school grades don't really hold any weight.

However, the work ethics and studying habits you develop during high school, that help you achieve high marks, will stick with you for the rest of your life. Give your best in everything you do.

In terms of applying to professional schools, I guess high school grades don't matter that much.

But I think they might matter more if you're trying to get into a really competitive undergraduate program.

Maybe you should also talk about "Why high school grades don't matter" ><

They only get you into university and maybe entrance scholarships and that's about it.

Thanks for reading. Grades are important when it comes to admissions, but not necessarily when it comes to life and interacting with others.

It's only one part of the equation (though quite a weighty one). Having said this, I would like to say that every year there are so many applicants with 4.0's that are rejected because they lack something else.

It's a balancing act. Whatever you do, try to do your best!

Glad everyone enjoyed Medaholic's article! =)

Paris: I experienced a lot of that too, but luckily in high school, when courses weren't as tough (maybe some people will have different experiences, but I definitely have found university courses harder). I got so caught up with so many things in high school that my school work took a big dive, and I feel really grateful for somehow being able to stick it out.

You're right. Grades are definitely important for medical school, but getting into medical school should not be the most important part of anyone's life.

This is an interesting post. Unfortunately, I came to this insight a little too late. Meaning that I would get too absorbed with my EC's and place them above and beyond my workload that I managed a couple of B+'s because of them. Thus to avoid such problems for all other pre-med students I advocate the matter (and also put a mandate for it in my club's constitution) that your studies come first!

Thankfully it hasnt affected the effectiveness of the club but it was the only way I could think of to make prospective med students understand that GRADES DO MATTER!

very deep post.
I agree. Grade are important and people should accept it or don't attempt medical school etc. However it is true, just because you are smart doesen't mean that you will make a good doctor :)
