Loved the series, it was VERY helpful. Just a Q, I'm interested in a particular field (for now) as well and have experiences that support that. But i was under the assumption that if I mentioned this desire to pursue a specific field in my essay, the adcom might think that perhaps my interests are too narrow and they would prefer someone who can adjust to ANY field in medicine? i'm a bit confused about that... While I realize a lot of the articles I wrote seem quite focused (like this one on applying to UofT's medical school), I really hope people are catching onto the idea of a bigger picture. I'm giving a lot of details and specifics in articles like this, but in my opinion, the most important aspect of what I share here is my thought process and my approach to things like applications and interviews. If you can see that there are underlying concepts here that could apply elsewhere, like you mentioned, then that's just fantastic. Thanks Alice!

Yes you are absolutely right. While I realize a lot of the articles I wrote seem quite focused (like this one on applying to UofT’s medical school), I really hope people are catching onto the idea of a bigger picture. I’m giving a lot of details and specifics in articles like this, but in my opinion, the most important aspect of what I share here is my thought process and my approach to things like applications and interviews. A lot of people don't realize that writing is actually a very important skill to have and that the essay is actually extremely important to any application. I know a lot of people who believe that I do X, Y, and Z so therefore I should have gotten the scholarship because my friend did the same things and got the scholarship. I'm glad to finally read this coming from you. It is so insightful and so true. Keep up the good work and I can't wait to hear about your med school adventures!
