Hey Arthur,

That's a good question, and I think it comes down to what you think is reasonable to share, and what will still remain respectable to your family instrument.

I think the point I'm trying to make is that it's not only important to be honest about your motivations, but that being honest makes your argument the strongest because your argument will make so much sense.

But what are the limits of stating that your family has history of XYZ disease? How far can you go before it becomes awkward/confidential information that shouldn't be shared?

Though I must agree, it is important for an argument to make sense, and for motivation to show up in such an argument.

Hi Oleg,

I would stray from lying on your application. It's very easy to get caught, especially if your story does not add up. And it's quite easy for scholarship judges to see who is genuine and who is not during the interview process.

I understand the whole idea of reflecting your motivations can sometimes be difficult, especially if it seems like your motivations don't sound as "amazing" or "genuine" as someone who has had a life changing experience. That's okay.

Just because your motivations are different, does not make them any less credible or important. I think you just need to spend some more time thinking about what really drives you, and why you are interested in this (I'm assuming medicine). It's hard, but it's worth doing. Understanding yourself, your thoughts, and your motivations will make your applications flow much more easily, and be invaluable during the interview process.

Good luck!

Is it OK to lie, when talking about motivation? For example, I dont have any one in my family with genetic diseases, but I still want to right about it.
