Hey Arthur,

Anytime you are being evaluated on something, it's pretty easy to turn it into a game-like situation.

I mean it doesn't have to be. You don't have to choose to do that with your education.

The problem is that often times, depending on where you want to go and your plans/goals for the future, you kind of have to.

Agreed - catering to the professor is a basic technique of the game. It is unfortunate that even supposed "higher education" is still largely game-like. I suppose the scholarly knowledge creation has moved into the realms of PhD studies, etc? ... Undergraduate studies become more and more like vocational programs, and with so many students, I guess something's gotta give...

Hey Ryan,

One way is to talk to older students who have had that professor before. Also, professors usually let you know early on what their teaching style is, and whether they will emphasize lecture or text-book material on their tests and exams. Also, once you do your first test, you'll have an idea on how to prepare for the rest of the course.

Thanks so much for your info! I feel a lot more confident in getting better marks in university from the transitioning from high school.

One question though, how are you able to recognize if a class is lecture-based or textbook-based? I'm not sure how to find that out...
