Hey Jen,

I wouldn't worry about high school too much now. Just focus on the present and do your best.

I say do the double major if you want to and makes you happy. You will find ways to make your schedule work. Also, essays might add some good diversity instead of doing biology multiple choice exams all the time =)

Medical school was busy, but summer has also been busy but fun. I hope to start writing again soon!

Hey Joshua,
i really found this series quite helpful, and had some great tips. I'm entering my first year of uni this fall, and want to make the most of it. I didnt do the best in my last few years of highschool, i got more and more invovled with the social aspect of it, and my grades took the hit for this. But now im again focused on doing well in my undergrad, and was just wondering, would my lack of focus in my highschool classes greatly effect my abilty to absorb the information taught in classes this year, since i don't have the best fondation to start with? If so, any suggestions to help me get on track before school starts.

Also, i think i may do a double major in bio and english, but would it be difficult to stud for my science courses with all the essays i'll surely have to write? Would specializing in biology be better for med school?

btw how has medical school been? I can see it's been quite a while since you've commented on this article, but hopefully you do, and sorry for the long comment.

Thanks, Jen

Hey Yamna,

I'm glad you have a such persistent, determined attitude - that's probably the first step to getting back on track. It's true that your chances are probably hurt for schools like Ottawa or McMaster that look at all your grades, but I would focus on doing your best now for 3rd and 4th year, and then applying to Western and Queen's, and similar schools that look at your best two years.

Best of luck!

Moreover, best of luck, I would probably have to do another bachelor's degree if I should be realistic about applying to medical school. but this is something that I REALLY wanna do and i am willing to do whatever it takes. My grades didnt work out first year due to not being serious enough, and second year because of a serious medical circumstances. and I know that theres no chance for me now although my average is good now (3rd year) but I know its too late. Would you have any advice for someone like me or if you've ever come across someone like this.

Thanks Joshua...I have really messed up half of my unversity life although I had great plans and was a very good student. Bringing myself back on track is extremely hard. dreams of medical school are really far from me now but I am just not the kind of person who gives up no matter how bad it seems. Your advice is really helpful I think ive seen you adress a seminar at york.

By hardly teaching, I meant that shes REALLLLY generalizing alot of the content and like half the time we are joking around talking about her life, which clearly does not interest me. I have heard good things about her too..hopefully she'll be more serious once everything settles down more.

Anyways,

thanks for all the aid you've provided so far,
If anything else i'll definetly ask you.

Good luck.
