That's a really good question, and I will be a writing an article on this very subject sometime soon. In short, I went to York University because I was offered a great mentorship opportunity, and there were some things in the Toronto area that I wanted to remain involved in.

All of the universities you're looking into are great options. The short answer is that you should pick the university that you think you will be able to do the best in (GPA-wise) but also enjoy a lot. I will try and get a more in depth article that addresses this issue up soon.

You're right, most advice for graduating high school students is pretty universal. I think you'll find most of the stuff here useful, even if you're not going into medicine.
